WAREHAM, Mass. — A Boston Fire District Chief drunkenly crashing his car into another car in the parking lot of the Onset Fire Department over the weekend, according to the Wareham Police Department.
A release from the department states Mark Buchanan, 60, was arrested at the Illumination Night held there over Labor Day Weekend.
Buchanan, who lives in Plymouth, was arrested after a firefighter said he saw the 60-year-old back his car into a parked vehicle and then attempt to leave the lot. When the firefighter waved him down, he told police he had to jump out of the way of Buchanan’s car.
When Buchanan got out of his vehicle, police say he identified himself as a Boston Fire District Chief.
The 60-year-old has been charged operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
"The Boston Fire Department is aware of the allegations facing Chief Mark Buchanan. We will monitor the situation as it is adjudicated through the court system and take the appropriate action if and when it is necessary," Boston Fire Commissioner Joseph Finn said in a statement sent to Boston 25 News Tuesday.
Buchanan is due in Wareham District Court Tuesday.
