FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — A close call in Framingham after a tree crashed onto a home, trapping the homeowner inside.

“We’re sitting out in the backyard and we heard this crack, cracking noise,” said Frank Digiandomenico, who lives nearby.

Digiandomenico and his son ran to help a woman stuck inside her home after the large tree came crashing down onto the roof of her home on Rockridge Road.

As the roof caved in from the tree, a few neighbors were able to pull the 80-year-old woman out of the house through a window to safety.

“A lot of neighbors were out, there was a group of four of us that kind of ran around every window,” said Digiandomenico. “We knew she was in there because both cars were in the driveway.”

“We saw her moving around inside the house and we got her to go to a front window,” Digiandomenico said. “We were able to open up the front window, another neighbor got inside to help her get outside, my son and I took her from the outside.”

“Very sad to see a family friend of 40-plus years’ home destroyed,” said Jonathan Fields, a family friend of the homeowner.

Fields said that he’s glad his family friend is okay, but it’s been a challenge to help her find another place to stay in this pandemic.

“Well that’s the scary thing because we are having a difficult time trying to figure out what to do with her and where she’s going to go,” he said.

Eventually the homeowner found a family friend to stay with as the cleanup to her house continues into Sunday night – all because of a rotting tree.
