WESTPORT, Mass. — The man wanted in connection to a fatal hit-and-run crash in Westport has turned himself in to police, the Bristol County District Attorney says.

Gerardo Lugo, 54, was driving the gray BMW they said crashed into and killed 30-year-old Stephanie Tripp on May 7, according to the Bristol DA's Office.

Police say Lugo left the scene of the crash, but they found his BMW last week and raided his apartment. Investigators say they found more than 100 grams of heroin.

Lugo is wanted on heroin trafficking charges, leaving the scene of a fatal accident, negligent operation or a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Bristol DA tweeted that Lugo turned himself into Westport Police.

He appeared in court Thursday where a judge ordered Lugo be held until his dangerousness hearing.

Lugo will be back in court on June 4.
