BROCKTON, Mass. — One teen is dead, and another has been arrested after a deadly shooting in Brockton on Tuesday night.

Brockton police responded to a ShotSpotter alert near the BAT Bus stop on Commercial Street, down the street from the Brockton Police Station, just before 8:00 p.m., according to a department spokesperson.

Officers found a person suffering a gunshot wound and rushed them to a nearby hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Jeffry Damestoire.

“In the vicinity of the shooting, officers were alerted by witnesses that the suspect was wearing all black and had fled toward Stillman Avenue,” the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office wrote. “Police located the suspect and he was apprehended in the rear of 41 Otis Street.”

The suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Tyree St. Cloud. He informed police that he had dropped a black Glock 30 handgun behind an apartment building on Stillman Ave., where investigators located it.

After interviews and video evidence, authorities believe that a physical altercation between the suspect and the victim is what led to the shooting.

In Brockton District Court on Wednesday, Cloud pleaded not guilty to the following charges:

  • Murder
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License
  • Discharging a Firearm within 500 ft of a building
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID card

Cloud has been held without bail at the request of the Commonwealth. He is expected to be back in court on April 13.
