BOSTON — Law enforcement officials on Friday announced the name of a man who was found beaten to death near Boston Common earlier this week.
Officers responding to a call reporting a man down in the area of Boylston and Tremont streets shortly before 5:30 a.m. Wednesday found 35-year-old Jonathan Sanon, of Norwood, suffering from traumatic injuries, according to the Boston Police Department.
Sanon was rushed to Tufts Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Hours after the gruesome discovery, police say officers arrested a person of interest at the intersection of John F. Kennedy Surface Road and Beach Street in connection with an unrelated assault that had occurred that same morning.
That suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Ashlie Jeremie of Bedford, was allegedly carrying a metal pole. Investigators say Jeremie struck the second victim with the pole from behind, leaving them hospitalized.
Homicide detectives later linked Jeremie to Sanon’s beating death, arresting him on charges including murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Jeremie appeared in court Thursday, where not-guilty pleas were entered on his behalf.
According to prosecutors, Jeremie has previously been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Jeremie is expected to return to court following the completion of his mental health evaluation.
An investigation into the attacks remains ongoing.
