BEDFORD, N.H. — A star voice actor from the hit animated sitcom “Bob’s Burgers” shared a heartfelt message on Friday, just days after he was involved in a fiery car wreck at a toll plaza in New Hampshire.
Comedian Eugene Mirman, 51, of Massachusetts, suffered serious injuries when his electric vehicle struck the Bedford Toll Plaza and burst into flames just before noon on Tuesday, shutting down the northbound side of the highway, according to New Hampshire State Police.
New Hampshire Gov. Kelly Ayotte and her security detail came upon the crash soon after, and a trooper and two others pulled Mirman from the burning car, authorities later announced.
State Police Col. Mark Hall called the actions of the rescuers “heroic.”
“Without hesitation, they put themselves in danger to render aid to someone who was in need of it,” Hall said.
Mirman spoke out Friday morning for the first time since the crash, expressing gratitude to those who rescued him, while noting that he was “thankful beyond words” to be alive.
In the post, Mirman wrote, “Thank you so much for all the well wishes, love, and kind messages from friends and strangers. I am extraordinarily thankful to the heroic people who pulled me from the car and to the warm, kind, and talented staff at the hospital who cared for me and got me on the mend! I am thankful beyond words to be here and doing relatively alright, all things considered. I don’t have my phone, so I haven’t been online much. I do not recommend my method of decreasing screen time. If you’re a friend who sent a kind, loving message, you should know that it was hard not to respond with, “I’d love to be on your podcast.” I love you all, and please take care of yourselves, Eugene."
Ayotte said she and her husband were praying for Mirman’s recovery.
Mirman was born in Russia, but his family migrated to the United States when he was four and settled in Lexington, Massachusetts, where he attended William Diamond Middle School and Lexington High School. He is also a graduate of Hampshire College in Amherst.
He voices Gene Belcher in FOX’s “Bob’s Burgers.” He’s also known for his role on HBO’s “Flight of the Conchords,” as well as stand-up work.
No charges have been filed in connection with the crash
An investigation is ongoing.
