NANTUCKET, Mass. — Nantucket police receive calls about all kinds of issues, but one recent non-emergency call came from a very recognizable voice.
Actor and comedian Adam Sandler called the Nantucket Police Department while visiting the island, looking for something simple: directions to a basketball court.
In audio shared by police, Sandler can be heard asking a dispatcher if there were any outdoor courts where people regularly play basketball.
“I’m visiting your island right now, and I was wondering if you could answer a question,” Sandler said. “I like to play basketball. Is there any outdoor courts where people play?”
The dispatcher pointed him to the basketball courts on Backus Lane, where Sandler later joined locals for a pickup game.
Sandler’s visit to Nantucket came shortly after he reportedly attended the wedding of pop superstar Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

The lighthearted call has generated plenty of smiles online, with many wondering whether they would have recognized the Hollywood star’s voice over the phone.
Despite his celebrity status, Sandler is well-known for joining pickup basketball games during his travels, often surprising local players by showing up unannounced and taking the court.
For the lucky players at Backus Lane, it turned into a pickup game they’ll likely never forget.
