3 arrested in connection with highway clash, shooting in Canton in February

CANTON, Mass. — Three people have been arrested in connection with a dramatic highway clash and daytime shooting caught on video on Route 138 in Canton that happened in February, police said.

Shaquille A. Lee, 28, and Jessica Araujo, 30, both of Everett, and Keith Resende, 31, of Brockton were charged following the Feb. 21 crash that “showed the brazenness of the daytime shooting,” Canton Police Chief Ken Berkowitz said.

“At the time, I said the suspects should turn themselves in,” Berkowitz said. “They didn’t listen and today we caught up with them. These arrests should send a loud and clear message to violent criminals - local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies are committed to working together in partnership to ensure our communities are safe. People who engage in this type of wanton and reckless behavior should be aware they will be apprehended and held accountable for their actions.”

Resende was arrested in Worcester Saturday afternoon by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, US Marshals, Worcester Police and the Massachusetts State Police, Berkowitz said.

Resende was wanted for intentionally ramming a vehicle on Route 138 in February.

“His actions sparked a passenger of the vehicle that he struck to immediately exit it and fire 6 shots, 5 of them striking Resende’s vehicle,” Berkowitz said.

Resende then drove a short distance on Route 138 in Canton before abandoning his bullet-ridden vehicle.

Lee and Araujo were arrested Friday following a search warrant for their roles in the shooting, Berkowitz said. Police seized two firearms and extended magazine for a Glock pistol and a drug trafficking weight of fentanyl.

Lee was charged with assault with intent to murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, unlicensed possession of a firearm, assault and battery with a deadly weapon, a firearm, possession of ammunition.

Araujo, who police say was driving the vehicle Lee was traveling in on Feb. 21, was charged with accessory after the fact of assault with the intent to murder, accessory after the fact of assault and battery with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm.

Police on Saturday did not release the charges Resende is facing.
