A Foxborough Police officer suddenly passed away after 28 years with the department, according to the Foxborough Police Department.

The department said Patrolman Joseph McDonald was "a dedicated member of the department for 28 years and recently served as our Court Prosecutor."

The 55-year-old passed away Wednesday at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and leaves behind a wife and three children.

McDonald was a Class of 1982 graduate of Foxborough High School, and earned his degree from Western New England College.
