Dozens of shell casings were recovered at the scene.

Detectives were back in the Back Bay Thursday looking for leads including surveillance video to identify the person or people who fired the shots.

What may be the most shocking part many people told us is nobody was hurt.

Crews spent the morning after clearing broken glass after police said someone fired multiple shots on Fairfield Street just off Newbury Street.

Lobstah On A Roll owner David Spinney told Boston 25 News his chef was in the back alley when shooting started just after 7:30 Wednesday night.

“He heard the gunshots. He saw people running around the corner coming into the alley to hide. It was kind of surreal,” Spinney said.

People ran for cover on busy Newbury and Boylston Streets.

“Someone pushed me to the ground and kept running,” one woman said.

“I don’t think I have ever run so fast in my life,” another person said.

Business owners hope last night’s scene does not discourage people from enjoying this area of the city.

“Hopefully people can see through it as an isolated incident and come in and visit,” Spinney said.
