Authorities are investigating after the death of a 5-year-old child in Lawrence, according to Essex County District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett.
Blodgett say police received a 911 call for a report of an unresponsive child on Bowdoin Street early Saturday morning.
Police responded around 2:48 a.m. to the apartment, and the child was transported to Lawrence General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Lawrence Police say the child was attending a family gathering at the address with several adults and other children when he was found unresponsive.
Police say foul play isn't suspected based on an initial investigation, and say a prior medical condition may have been a factor.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of the child's death, and Blodgett said the incident remains under investigation.
