1 year later, still no answers in fatal East Brookfield hit-and-run

EAST BROOKFIELD, Mass. — State and local police in Worcester County are still asking for the public's help in a fatal hit and run on busy Route 9 one year ago.

Lisa Germain was crossing Route 9 in front of Dunny's Tavern around 6 p.m. on Oct 29, 2017, when a driver heading westbound hit her.

"This year has been the worst year I could have ever imagined," said Germain's daughter Erica Paradis. "I wonder, do they have guilt? Do they have remorse? How do they live with themselves?"

East Brookfield Police says there were several challenges to their investigation including poor surveillance video quality in this area.

"The timing was terrible because it started raining a lot of the cameras switched to infrared and they lost a lot of clarity," said E. Brookfield Police Chief William Cournoyer.

Cournoyer says Mass. State Police have plans to bring in the FBI to enhance the video in the hopes of generating a lead.

One year later, Paradis has the same plea, "I remember a year ago saying, please come forward. You need to heal as much as I need to heal. And that's still my plea. Is that the person who left my mom to die in the road could come forward."
