CHELMSFORD, Mass. — A bad crash was caught on video as a car went into a jewelry store in Chelmsford.

One of the owners of the store was inside when the incident occurred, and was facing the car as it smashed through the glass.

The co-owner, Richard Romano, jumped back and tried to make sure his customers weren't hurt in the crash.

"I was standing at the cash register and waiting on a couple customers, and all of a sudden, a red Toyota started to come right through the glass window," Romano said. "It was scary."

Romano and the customers approached the driver, a 61-year-old Tyngsborough woman who Chelmsford Police say accidentally stepped on the gas pedal while pulling into a parking spot, rather than the brake.

The woman got out of the car, visibly upset but not hurt.

"She was very nice and very apologetic," Romano said. "But, obviously she was shaken."

It was a close call for one worker, almost right in the Toyota Camry's path.

I was just going to go up and remerchandise one of the cases up where the car was," Charlie Horndahl said. "And it was around one o’clock, and I said, 'Well, I think I’ll have my lunch first,' and just finished my lunch, and bang."

Horndahl snapped pictures inside, with the car pushing against display cases across the floor.

"A little angel was watching, I guess," Horndahl said. "Told me to have my lunch instead."

All the jewelry appears to be intact as the owners assess the damage to the building, and everyone is okay.

"As long as nobody's hurt, that's the important thing," Romano said.
