CHELSEA, Mass. – The search is on for a person who police say posed as a customer before holding up a convenience store clerk at gunpoint in Chelsea.
The clerk, Raunak Shingla, told Boston 25 News he can’t believe someone would have the nerve to rob the store on a holiday.
“I never expect this kind of situation on Christmas,” Shingla said. “Sad stuff, very sad.”
The robber entered EZ Variety on Washington Street Monday night to buy cigarettes. He pulled out a gun while Shingla was making change.
“When I opened the register, he showed me the gun like this and asked me for the money two times. I give him all the money,” he said.
The suspect made off with more than $200. Shingla said he noticed the man’s face covering, but initially thought it was just a winter mask.
Surveillance video has been turned over to police, and Shingla said he’s hoping that police will be able to track down the thief and the stolen money.
