BOSTON — Red Sox manager John Farrell announced pitcher Steven Wright will miss his next start after jamming his shoulder diving into second base while pinch-running.
Wright was inserted in Sunday's game for David Ortiz as a pinch-runner. While on the bases, he was forced to scramble back to second and dive. Evidently, he jammed his shoulder, which led to inflammation that will postpone his next scheduled start.
Wright was scheduled to pitch Thursday night against the Yankees, so his absence will alter the rotation.
Eduardo Rodriguez will get the start on Thursday, with David Price starting against Arizona on Friday and Clay Buchholz getting the spot start on Saturday.
Wright is 13-5 this season with a 3.01 ERA.
