SECAUCUS, NJ — Jason Groome, a left-handed pitcher from Barnegat Township, New Jersey, was picked by the Red Sox with the 12th overall selection in the MLB Draft.
Groome is 6'5", 220 lbs. and was listed as the #1 prospect by MLB.com.
Al Leiter, an analyst for MLB Network called him, "as good a high school pitcher as I've seen."
Groome e was originally committed Vanderbilt, but recently changed to Chipola College to give him flexibility with not signing and then re-entering the draft next year after a year at Chipole.
Groome did say recently the Red Sox were his favorite team which may help them get him signed.
