OAKLAND, Calif — The Red Sox found themselves in the middle of the first no-hitter of the season Saturday night, but they fell on the wrong side of history.

Oakland Athletics pitcher Sean Manaea didn't allow a single hit to the league's top team in a 3-0 win on the West Coast. The Red Sox moved to 17-3 with the loss, still two games ahead of the next-best team in the MLB.

Red Sox fans may feel a little more upset about the loss after a sixth-inning infield hit by Andrew Benintendi was taken off the board after umpires said Benintendi went out of the baseline to avoid the tag.

Saturday marked the first time the Red Sox have been no-hit since 1993, when Seattle Mariners pitcher Chris Bosio no-hit the Red Sox.

Manaea struck out 10 batters on 108 pitches. He's the first Athletics pitcher to throw a no-hitter since Dallas Braden's perfect game in 2010 against the Tampa Bay Rays.
