BOSTON — The Red Sox have added another stand-out pitcher to the rotation, acquiring Chris Sale from the White Sox.
Among those headed to Chicago is highly-touted infielder Yoan Moncada and pitcher Michael Kopech, along with pitcher Victor Diaz and outfielder Luis Alexander Basabe.
Sale, a 27-year-old lefty, has spent seven years in the majors, posting a 74-50 record. He is a five time American League All-Star.
Moncada was acquired as a stalwart infield prospect by the Red Sox in 2015 and spent the last two years developing in the minor league system. After winning the MVP of the Futures Game during All-Star weekend, he was ultimately promoted to Boston in August, but struggled at the plate and was not on the postseason roster.
Kopech is a 20-year old right-hander picked in the first round of the 2014 draft out of high school. He has compiled an 8-7 record over three minor league seasons, finishing 2016 in Salem, where he posted a 2.25 ERA in 11 games.
