YPSILANTI, MI — A plane carrying the Michigan basketball team was involved in an accident at Willow Run Airport as the team was attempting to fly to Washington, D.C. for the Big Ten Tournament.

Matt Shepard, the play-by-play voice of the Wolverines, tweeted a picture of the plane shortly after everyone on board was evacuated.

The team released the following statement:

"The Michigan men's basketball team plane was involved in an accident Wednesday afternoon. After attempting to take off in high winds, takeoff was aborted and, after strong braking, the plane slid off the runway. The plane sustained extensive damage but everyone on board was safely evacuated and is safe. The team is making alternative travel plans."
