Pats RB James White out for season, per reports

Veteran injured his hip in loss to New Orleans

FOXBORO, Mass. — New England Patriots RB James White is expected to miss the remainder of the 2021 NFL season due to a hip injury sustained in the Patriots’ loss to the New Orleans Saints this past Sunday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Field Yates.

A three-time Super Bowl champion, White has been with New England since 2014. The 29-year-old recently inked a new deal with the Patriots, returning to Foxboro on a one-year deal worth $2.5 million in fully guaranteed money.

White was hurt on his first rushing attempt against New Orleans, a six-yard scamper to the left side of the field. The Wisconsin product had to be carted off the field following the hip injury. In the three games he’s played in 2021, White has found the end zone once on a 7-yard rush against the New York Jets. He’s amassed 94 receiving yards on 12 catches while also rushing for 38 total yards on the season.

White is coming off of a 2020 season where he rushed for 121 total yards on 35 attempts while hauling in 49 passes for 375 receiving yards. He reached the end zone three times a season ago, tied for his lowest total since his 2014 rookie season. He caught one touchdown pass in 2020 while running in two more.

In his 95-game NFL career, White has been a dual-threat for New England out of the backfield. On the ground, White has run for 1,278 yards while finding the end zone 11 times. As a pass-catcher, White has caught 74.6% of the balls thrown to him in his career, grabbing 381 career passes, 25 of which have been for touchdowns.
