BOSTON — Red Sox starting pitcher Joe Kelly left Tuedsay's game against Tampa Bay after facing just four batters.

Kelly walked two of the first three Rays batters he faced, then struck out Corey Dickerson, but was heard yelling after he threw the pitch.

Red Sox manager John Farrell quickly visited the mound and decided to remove Kelly from the game.

Heath Hembree replaced Kelly, who suffered a "right shoulder impingement," according to the team.

Farrell updated the media after the game, saying, "As much as he tried to gain a little velocity, he felt a little bit of a grabbing or pinching sensation, so the right shoulder impingement is what he's been diagnosed with and it's likely that he's going to miss some time," said Farrell.

Kelly is expected to go on the 15-day disabled list and will likely be replaced on the roster by Brian Johnson or Henry Owens.
