Gronk could earn top dollar with restructured deal

FOXBORO — Rob Gronkowski has restructured his deal with the Patriots and should he meet specific milestones, he could be the highest paid tight end in the league.

ESPN's Adam Schefter provided the details, through Gronk's agent, Drew Rosenhaus.

Seattle's Jimmy Graham is currently the highest-paid tight end, likely earning $10 million this season with roster and workout incentives.

Gronkowski's 2016 season ended early due to a back injury he initially suffered in the Patriots loss to the Seahawks. He attempted to return when the Patriots played the Jets, but left that game early and didn't return to action for the rest of the season.

He underwent back surgery and is expected to make a full recovery in time for this season.

Before agreeing to this restructured deal, Gronkowski was due to earn $4.75 million in 2017.
