NORTON — The Girls Independent Golf League -- also known as GIGL -- is a non-profit organization that provides a competitive, yet friendly team environment for girl golfers all over Massachusetts. Established in 2012 by sisters Jillian and Sadie Berand, the league has grown exponentially over the years.

This Sunday at the MGA Links course in Norton, over 200 young girls ages 4 to 18 came out to compete in the friendly golf tournament. Remarkably, registration per golfer costs just $10. The GIGL organization provides golf clubs, balls, and tees for free.

The girls golf league has become so popular, GIGL has plans to expand to Western Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island in the near future, with additional expansion interest in Texas, North Carolina, Michigan, and parts of Canada.

If you know of someone interested in joining GIGL league, or start a team of your own, contact Dave Berand for more information: (508) 316-1171 or dbarend@comcast.net
