BOSTON (AP) — The Philadelphia Flyers wins eliminated the Boston Bruins from playoff contention Saturday.
The Philadelphia Flyers clinched a playoff berth with a 3-1 win over the playoff-bound Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. The Bruins could have made the playoffs if the Philadelphia Flyers got no more than one point in their last two games, including one later Saturday against Pittsburgh.
The Bruins had lost to Ottawa 6-1 earlier in the day. With Boston goalie Tuukka Rask out sick for the Bruins' last-gasp run at a playoff berth, backup Jonas Gustavsson allowed four goals in the first half of the second period and the Ottawa Senators went on to win the regular-season finale 6-1 on Saturday.
