Dedham — Baseball is thriving in Barnstable County.
"Baseball is back because of the people we have in place. When people start caring that's when everyone starts caring", says Joe Scott, President of the Barnstable Little league.
At the home of the Barnstable Little League in Hyannis there is a brand new field called Fenway Cape Cod at Lorusso Complex.
This field and the complex came about because of a labor of love from a community that loves baseball. Joe Scott is the man who spearheaded the mission and really rallied the troups.
"This is a great league to be a part of and Joe is so enthusiastic", says Roberta Ward. Roberta is the Director of Fundraising for Barnstable Little League and she also has four boys who play on these fields.
Roberta says that Joe has really been the driving force behind getting this done. "It was all Joe and he called one day last winter and said he wanted to build it and then it just started happening like a week later", says Roberta.
"Barnstable is a good community and that's what it takes to build something like this: good people", says Scott.
People like Sid Davidson who is the Public Relations Director for the Lyndon Paul Lorusso Charitable Foundation. "We are the largest private foundation on Cape Cod and our mission is about children", says Davidson. " And what better way to invest in the future, especially the children of Cape Cod, than to invest in something as spectacular as this".
The Cape Cod Baseball League also put it's support behind this complex. "I think it's wonderful. Barnstable Little League has been really strong for a long time. And just like baseball participation overall has dropped a little bit, I think having a complex like this for the young kids and really building up their interest at an early age helps build up their interest and helps them stay with the game", says Chuck Sturtevant, President of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
Joe Scott knows this was all a team effort, " it's a group effort. It took a lot of people to get this done."
