YARMOUTH, Mass. — A frosty dip in the ocean set for New Year's Day has been postponed in Yarmouth due to extreme cold, police say.

The Yarmouth Police Department put the kibosh on plans to jump into the icy waters Monday as predicted wind chills could push the temperature below 0.

"Although a few brave Cape Codders would be willing to dive in, the consensus was that this community and family event will be better enjoyed and attended when conditions are more tolerable later this winter," a spokesperson wrote on Facebook.

Others, however, say they aren't going to let a little cold get in the way of a good time.

The 8th Annual Polar Plunge at Smugglers Beach has been postponed until Sunday January 21.

The L Street Brownies, of Southie, say they plan to go ahead with their plunge. Along with them, Team Frate Train, the Pete Frates organization, plans to go ahead with their Plunge for Pete.

Bourne police also announced they would be shutting down their weekend plunge Friday afternoon.
