Yarmouth Police officer helps boy injured at baseball game

YARMOUTH, Mass. — A mother is singing a Yarmouth Police officer’s praises for helping her injured son.

As part of his patrol, Officer Nick Giammarco often stops by and walks around the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox games as a community policing initiative.

While at a recent game, a young boy named Drew was playing around and fell down, resulting in a cut to his head. Officer Giammarco used one of the player’s water bottles to wash out the wound and applied pressure with paper towels to control the bleeding.

A short time later, a foul ball landed behind Officer Giammarco and the ball was given to him. Officer Giammarco brought the ball over to Drew to hopefully put a smile on his face.

Once Drew calmed down, Officer Giammarco gave him a flag pin with the Yarmouth Police Department’s badge on it. He explained to Drew he could wear the pin for being so brave.

Drew’s mother, Mary Jones, sent a special thank you card and two St. Michael Prayer Coins to Officer Giammarco for helping her son.

The card read:

Officer Giammarco,
Thank you so much for the kindness you showed my son, Drew, at the Y-D Red Sox game the other night.
I’m a single mother who works full time in Boston for the Army National Guard and Drew spends a majority of his time on the Cape with his grandparents. He loves baseball and idolizes the military, police department & fire department.
The time you spent checking in on him, giving him the flag pin and fly ball made a lasting impression.
Thank you, truly from the bottom of my heart for going above and beyond.
Mary Jones

Officer Giammarco just celebrated seven years with the Yarmouth Police Department.
