YARMOUTH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Fourteen years ago, a Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officer was killed in the line of duty. On Monday, the department remembered Officer Bradford M. Erickson.
Officer Erickson, 60, had been directing traffic at a road-improvement project on Dec. 1, 2000 in Barnstable when he was struck by a fully loaded heavy construction vehicle around 2:30 p.m. Officer Erickson was transported to the Cape Cod hospital, where he died approximately eight hours later from his injuries.
Officer Erickson had served with the Yarmouth Police Department for 28 years. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Yarmouth Police Headquarters, built in 2001, has a road leading into the facility named "Brad Erickson Way" in the officer's memory. A special plaque and seat is posted in the department's briefing room in his honor.
