Worcester man fatally shot following fireworks

WORCESTER (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A 33-year-old man was fatally shot following the fireworks display in Worcester on Tuesday night.

Police say a large crowd, including many children, gathered around 9 p.m. to watch the fireworks display at Elm Park; however, following the festivities, a male suspect walked up behind Jonathan Kapulka in a parking lot and opened fire.

The incident occurred on Grafton Road just before 10 p.m.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect ran from the scene and is still at large.

Witnesses in the crowd originally thought the popping noise was fireworks, but soon realized it was the sound of gunfire.  Police say there were children present at the time of the shooting.

The killing is the seventh homicide in Worcester this year.
