Wonderland T station stabbing suspect held on $100,000 bail

EVERETT, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A man who police say is responsible for stabbing two people, one seriously, at the Wonderland MBTA station in Revere on Friday night was arraigned Monday.

A $100,000 cash bail was imposed on 28-year-old Matthew DeCosta, who has been charged with assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. Friday night. A 49-year-old Everett man sustained life-threatening injuries, including an "eviscerating wound to his abdomen," and punctures to his lung and liver, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office. The second victim, a 33-year-old Malden woman suffered less serious injuries to her arm.

Witness statements and surveillance video showed the male victim and DeCosta getting into a verbal argument, the female victim attempting to intervene, and DeCosta taking out a knife and stabbing at both. Neither victim knew DeCosta, officials said.

As police officers arrived on scene, witnesses said DeCosta fled the scene on foot. Officers found him sitting on an outbound train at Revere Beach with blood stains on his shoes and clothing.

"You guys got me," DeCosta allegedly said after police read him his rights. "If you want to beat me up, take the handcuffs off me and fight me."
