FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — A local woman claims she was fired from Wormtown Brewery at Patriot Place because of her prosthetic leg.

Jennifer McCarthy said she was recently hired at the brewery's newest location in Foxborough, which had a busy first day with the Patriots game on Sunday.

"I like usually don't make big deals about this stuff, but this was literally as discriminatory as they come," said McCarthy.

McCarthy said that, with the downpours and crowds, she had to go at her own pace to avoid getting hurt.

"I remember stopping and trying to dry my feet and I got yelled at to keep moving," said McCarthy.

Then, she says she got a call from her manager on Tuesday, firing her for not being able to keep up.

David Fields, one of Wormtown's owners, says that, while he can't comment on specific personnel matters, they work hard to ensure all employees are welcome and heard.

"We generally want to foster a rewarding and supportive environment for all our family members," said Fields. "We take any issue and any complaint that's brought forward seriously. In addition, my door, personally, is always open to every member of our brewery family."

McCarthy lost her leg three years ago in a serious car accident. Now, she hopes she can bring awareness to others suffering from this disability, as well as possible discrimination in the workplace.

"Even if that reason was small or big, that's not a reason you can let go of someone," said McCarthy.
