HALIFAX, Mass. — A house fire in Halifax burned for several hours, fueled by the strong winds of Hermine off the Massachusetts coast.
The fire began around 1 p.m. in Thompson Street and as soon as firefighters responded they called for assistance.
“It was very windy today, heavy fire with the wind conditions which made it difficult,” Halifax Fire Chief Jason Vivieros said.
FOX25 meteorologists say wind gusts were up to 40 mph in the area, which stoked the flames.
Firefighters did their best to save the animals inside the home, but the flames were so intense they were forced out of the home.
One firefighter was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and is expected to be OK.
