WEST ROXBURY, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Boston police and fire officials are investigating after a West Roxbury park was set on fire over the weekend. While they are tracking down leads to find out who is responsible, the playground is off limits for kids.
In one word they are heart-broken. Residents in the area say it was a special place for the kids who live there. The entire community had once pitched in to pay for and build it.
The slide, ladder and climbing tube were just a few of the special memories for 11-year-old Owen Trenor and his grandmother Peg Donovan.
"I had to beg him to come out of the play structure and his sister when she was with me, she was the same way," Donovan said.
But Monday, the playground at the Ohrenburger School is damaged from a fire late Friday night. The cause is still unknown.
FOX25 cameras were rolling as fire investigators used an K9 officer to search for clues.
The school's Director Grace Guinnane said the park will be costly to rebuild. Boston police are assisting the fire department in their investigation, but no suspects yet and no surveillance video.
Anyone with information is asked to call Boston police.
