Weather conditions may have played role in fatal Bourne crash

BOURNE (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Fire officials in Bourne confirm that a 25-year-old Coventry, R.I. resident is dead as a result of a car crash on Route 28 southbound.

Emergency crews responded to the wreck on Macarthur Boulevard, approximately 200 feet north of Jonathan Bourne Drive, around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. The vehicle crashed into an electric utility pole with such force that the pole split in two.

According the officials, the operator was trapped in the vehicle.

A preliminary revealed that the vehicle hydroplaned on the slick roadway and struck the pole.

NSTAR crews had to shut off a power grid in the area to allow rescuers access to the trapped victim because the pole that was struck had live electrical wires.

Route 28 southbound was shut down as a result of the accident.
