It was a majestic sight along the South Shore Monday morning where a pod of right whales were seen just a few hundred feet from the coast.

Sky25 flew over Marshfield Monday and saw a pod of right whales feeding. Right whales are the rarest of the large whales and can be 50-feet long and weigh 70 tons!

They are a critically endangered species.

There is now  a new way to learn about wildlife in Massachusetts. The Office of Travel and Tourism is releasing a map called the Massachusetts Whale Trail, which will direct people to points of interest across the state.

Since the whales are so highly protected in our coastal waters, no one is allowed within 500 yards of them. Speed restrictions are also in place for boaters in areas where right whales tend to travel.
