WATCH: Hingham officer nearly hit by car while removing dead deer from road

HINGHAM, Mass. — The Hingham Police Department released a video of a police officer that was nearly hit by a car to show the importance of the Move Over Law in Massachusetts.

An officer stopped his cruiser on George Washington Boulevard around 11 p.m. Saturday to remove a large deer that was hit and killed by a vehicle.

In the dash cam video posted on the Hingham Police Department's Facebook page, you can see Officer Jeffrey Kilroy standing next to the vehicle preparing to move the animal when a car approached, never reduced its speed and failed to move into the right lane.

"Whenever you approach any stopped vehicle with its emergency light on, slow down and move over into the next available lane," police said in a YouTube post. "If you are approaching a scene and are blinded by lights, slow down, proceed with caution and prepare to stop."

Kilroy was able to step out of the way to avoid being hit and was not injured. Police said other officers attempted to catch up to the vehicle, but were unable to locate it.
