Warwick teacher arrested after alleged assault

WARWICK, RI (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A teacher in Warwick, Rhode Island was arrested after an alleged sexual assault outside of a bar earlier this month.

Brendan Friel, 31, was charged with second degree sexual assault following an incident at O'Rourke's Bar and Grill. At about 11 p.m. on Sept. 12, Warwick police responded to the bar after a disturbance was reported. Officers found Friel, who appeared to be drunk, walking in the area.

They say Friel approached a 29-year-old woman in the bar and started talking to her, but that made her uncomfortable so she moved away. Friel then allegedly approached her, shoved his hand underneath her and touched her buttocks.

He was arraigned and released on $5,000 surety bail. A screening conference with the attorney general is scheduled for Oct. 19.
