Warrant issued for teen in connection with Brockton brawl that left 1 dead

BROCKTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Police have issued a warrant for a teen in connection with the brawl in Brockton that left one dead and two others injured Wednesday.

Three teens were stabbed in the fight that broke out at about 6:30 p.m. at Edgar Park. Over 50 police officers responded to the area where several people were involved in the altercation. About 100 hundred kids were at the park and witnessed what happened.

Yuran Martins, one of the teens stabbed, was flown to the hospital where he died from his injuries. Police say he was stabbed several times.

An uncle of Martins' was torn up about what happened and says his nephew was having problems and became involved with the wrong people.

"It's hard to tell you about him," his uncle Raul Lopes said. "I know it's not good kids, little bit of a headache. Doing something not good."

A 15-year-old and another 18-year-old were also stabbed, but both are expected to be okay. A state police gang unit doing a proactive patrol in the area drove up on the deadly scuffle and were able to get it under control before it escalated further. Several people have been questioned.

Brockton's mayor said he is outraged by the violence after so much work has gone into the park. He and the city's police chief announced that they would be installing cameras to monitor the area 24 hours a day, seven days a week and assigning more patrols to the neighborhood.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Anildo Lopes Correia, 24, for murder in connection with the stabbing. He has not been taken into custody, but police do not believe that he is dangerous to the community.
