BOSTON — Boston Mayor Marty Walsh held a news conference Wednesday afternoon to discuss the city's preparations for Thursday's nor'easter.

The storm is expected to bring upwards of 20" of snow to Boston and a blizzard warning is in effect.

Walsh announced Boston Public Schools would remain closed on Thursday. Friday is still to be determined.
The city has 700 pieces of snow equipment, 40,000 tons of rock salt and will begin to pre-treat roads and sidewalks Wednesday night. The emergency operations center was activated at 7 a.m. Thursday and space saver rules also go into effect Thursday.

Walsh says extra staff is on hand and Boston police and EMS will help get doctors and nurses to work.
He also asked employers to allow employees to work from home, if possible.
Walsh said the city is officially in a snow emergency as of 7 a.m.
Cars must be off the streets by then.
Walsh says the city will be towing after 7 a.m.
