Video: Madonna breaks law banning pro-LGBT speech at Russian concert

Pop icon Madonna broke a city law in St. Petersburg, Russia during a concert on Thursday with a fiery speech about showing support for the gay community.

"We want to fight for the right to be free. To be who we are," says Madonna in a video posted on her YouTube channel.

Madonna also explains what she has seen during her travels across the world.

"I feel people are becoming more and more afraid of people who are different; people are becoming more and more intolerant," she says.

A city law prohibits the use of so-called "homosexual propaganda" when in the presence of minors. The lawmaker who helped to create this law tells the Moscow Times that Madonna broke the law and needs to be brought to justice.

Those who break the law could be fined over $15,000.
