WAREHAM, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A video posted to Facebook and YouTube by a local man is going viral as he filmed two police officers who came to his home.
On Wednesday morning at 10:37 a.m., police received a 911 call from a neighbor concerned that the people inside 17 Camardo Drive were fighting, and a 3-year-old girl was unsupervised outside.
Two officers were dispatched to the home.
Richard Phillips, 39, says that when the Wareham officers arrived, he announced that he was filming the interaction. Next, Phillips says, a Wareham police officer attempted to slap the phone out of his hand, but instead struck his 58-year-old mother, Trudy Phillips.
"I got hit by that cop. He went bang and I went to go reach out to the wall," Trudy said.
Richard was shocked, saying "it took me a second to realize" what had happened.
In a press release issued Thursday, Wareham police stated that a 58-year-old woman "was transported from the scene by Wareham EMS to Tobey Hospital, and released shortly after her arrival from the hospital."
Discharge papers from the hospital say Trudy was treated for an assault and sustained a minor head injury.
Since being uploaded to the Internet late Wednesday morning, the video, which is three and a half minutes long, has been shared more than 3,400 times on Facebook and had close to 10,000 views on YouTube as of Thursday evening.
The video does not show the officer hitting Trudy, but the family is adamant it happened. They want the officer fired and criminally charged.
"The matter is under investigation," police wrote in a statement. Police also issued the original 911 call.
