FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Fifteen years after her mother was murdered, Jennifer Case is asking for police to renew their investigation.

Jennifer was 14 years old at the time, and the only child of 41-year-old Karen Marchioni.

On Oct. 8, 2001, Marchioni called 911 saying she had been attacked in her apartment on Nelson Street in Framingham.

When police arrived they found lying on the ground with multiple of stab wounds on her face and neck. She was airlifted to a hospital but did not survive.

“I'm not sure of the motive but no I don't think it was a random at all,” Jennifer said.

Steven Case, Jennifer's mother and Marchioni's first husband, said he doesn't know why she was targetted, but just the day before she told him she was afraid.

“I could see it in her face. She was nervous about something. I wasn’t really sure what it was and then she did tell me that the person who lived upstairs from here saw people in the backyard; three people,” he said.

Jennifer said she believes investigators likely know the killer’s identity, but she can’t understand why after 15 years no arrests have been made.

“When it happened it was three weeks after 9-11, so I think that played a big part into it. Law enforcement and labs were really busy at the time and I completely understand that, but I feel like it was somebody’s job to pick it up again,” Jennifer said.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office says they are still investigating the cold case.

"After 15 years, our office remains committed to solving the murder of Karen Marchioni Henderson and to bringing closure to the victim s family and loved ones. While we have made progress, this remains an open investigation,” a statement to FOX25 said.

At least one person of interest was developed in the case, but no arrests were made. Still, Jennifer says she is happy with the attention the case is now getting.

“I have a lot more hope now than I did a year ago, even a month ago.  The response that I'm getting from this makes me really hopeful,” she said.
