BOSTON — The search continues for a man who broke into the USS Constitution and vandalized.

As Boston 25 News first reported Tuesday, the man somehow snuck on board after hours Sunday and damaged a door below deck.

The Navy said the damage was minimal and has already been repaired.

The man was escorted off the ship and ran before he could be identified. A surveillance picture may reveal a lot of clues and investigators are counting on the public's help.

"He's got some unique clothing on. He's got a hat that looks like a Lampost Street symbol on it.  Somebody knows where that hat is from, somebody knows where that hat was bought," said Boston 25 News security Expert Dan Linskey.

Old Ironsides, also known as  is in dry dock for a multimillion dollar restoration and has been for over two years.

“It’s a failure of security somewhere along the line,” Boston 25 Security Expert Dan Linskey said. “It’s definitely a problem. Definitely a challenge no one should have been able to get on that vessel and spend any significant time there, without getting a response.”

There is concern about the security lapse that allowed this intruder on board the important landmark in the first place. Linskey believes that this was an isolated incident, but he said that with the upcoming Tall Ships event next month, security will be very tight.

The Constitution is set to be refloated in July.
