Two pedestrians taken to hospital after separate crashes

SOMERVILLE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Two pedestrians were hit Wednesday in Somerville in separate crashes.

At about 5:43 p.m., police responded to a call for a pedestrian hit by a car on Route 28 southbound in front of the court, police say. A 24-year-old Hanover woman driving a Toyota Corolla hit a 29-year-old Somerville woman. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries and is in critical condition.

While police were looking into that incident, another pedestrian was struck on Route 28 southbound just before 7 p.m., only 200 yards away from the first crash. A Chelmsford 21-year-old driving a 2013 Chevrolet pickup truck struck a 20-year-old Somerville man. He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The identities of both pedestrians have been withheld until their families are notified.

No charges have been filed, and the investigations remain ongoing.
