MEDFORD, Mass. — Tufts University has issued cease and desist orders against four fraternities.
The decision comes during multiple investigations into allegations of hazing and sexual misconduct among the male Greek organizations.
The investigation into incidents was sparked by a student op-ed in the school's newspaper, which brought the allegations to light.
Three deans wrote a statement Friday explaining the decision, which it said was voluntarily made by the Inter-Fraternity Council.
"At this time, all social activity by all fraternities has been suspended," the statement read.
In addition, recruitment from fraternities and sororities for spring of 2017 has been canceled.
Every fraternity will be required to take sexual misconduct prevention training, alcohol education and hazing prevention training.
"We encourage those who may have been affected by these allegations, reports, or issues to take advantage of resources available at the University and in their local communities," Tufts said in a statement posted online.
