IOWA — The leading Republicans are sparring over allegations of dirty tricks during the Iowa caucuses.
Both Donald Trump and Ben Carson have accused supporters of Senator Ted Cruz of committing fraud. Specifically, Carson claims that Cruz staffers sent an e-mail telling supporters to say Carson was dropping out of the race.
Trump also tweeted that Cruz "stole" Iowa.
Cruz was the winner in Monday's caucuses. Wednesday, the Texas senator said his staffers were wrong to imply that Carson was leaving the race when, in fact, he was only going home to Florida for one day after the caucuses.
"I apologized to [Carson] directly," Cruz said. "I said, listen, it was a mistake for our team."
Carson said that "whoever is responsible for blatant lying should be immediately dismissed."
Wednesday night, Cruz also responded to Trump's allegations of voter fraud in Iowa. He called the comments an example of a "Trumper tantrum."
Trump says Cruz should be disqualified as the winner of the caucus.
Both Cruz and Trump have events in New Hampshire Thursday.
