The No. 2 executive of Facebook’s parent company Meta has announced she is leaving the tech giant.
Sheryl Sandberg made the announcement on her personal Facebook page, The Associated Press reported.
Sandberg, 52, has been the chief operating officer for 14 years, ABC News reported.
She came to Facebook from Google in 2008, four years before the social media platform went public, the AP reported.
Mark Zuckerberg called Sandberg’s departure “the end of an era.”
In the Facebook post, Zuckerberg credited Sandberg for helping build it from a small startup to a “real organization.”
“She created opportunities for millions of people around the world, and she deserves the credit for so much of what Meta is today,” Zuckerberg said.
He called their history unusual for lasting so long, calling her “an amazing person, leader, partner and friend.”
Zuckerberg has named Javier Olivan as the next COO of Meta.
