Honda has issued a recall of some of its generators because of potential fire and burn hazards.

Officials said the inverter assembly in the portable generator can short circuit when the generator is exposed to salt water, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The generator then could smoke or even catch fire, the CPSC said.

The following units were affected by the recall:

  • EB2200i with serial numbers between EAJT-1000001 through 1011342
  • EU2200i with serial numbers EAMT-1000001 through 2098790
  • EU2200i Companion with serial numbers EAMT-1000001 through 2098790
  • EU2200i Camo with serial numbers EAMT-1000001 through 2098790

About 340,000 generators are being recalled. You should stop using them and call an authorized Honda Power Equipment service dealer for a free repair. Honda will be contacting owners.
