In an emailed statement, the Federal Aviation Administration said the baggage compartment door fell from a single-engine Textron T240 shortly after takeoff from Henderson Executive Airport.

“We were driving in the parking lot of the St. Rose shopping center after picking up our daughter’s glasses, when I saw the door fall from the sky,” Christopher Wolverton told Fox News.

There were no injuries or damage reported. The door landed in the parking lot of a shopping center that houses multiple businesses, including a Hobby Lobby and a Costco.

Wolverton took photos of the door, and said that he heard the plane going by but did not see the aircraft.

“I stopped the car and exclaimed, ‘Oh my God! I think a door just fell from that plane!’ My family thought I was seeing things,” Wolverton told Fox News.

The pilot was the only person on board the aircraft, which returned to the airport after the incident, the FAA told KTNV.
