President Donald Trump has fired Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Update 3:12 p.m. ET, April 2: Bondi released a statement on Thursday afternoon, which read, “Over the next month I will be working tirelessly to transition the office of Attorney General to the amazing Todd Blanche before moving to an important private sector role I am thrilled about, and where I will continue fighting for President Trump and this Administration.”

Update 1:38 p.m. ET, April 2: Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche posted to X.com after news of Bondi’s firing, writing, “Pam Bondi led this Department with strength and conviction and I’m grateful for her leadership and friendship.”

Update 1:21 p.m. ET, April 2: Trump posted to Truth Social shortly after news broke that Bondi had been fired.

He said that she “faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year. Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900.”

He confirmed that Bondi will be temporarily replaced by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, as rumored earlier. Trump said that Bondi will be “transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector.”

Bondi was Florida’s first female attorney general, winning in 2020 and was the 37th in the state’s history. She was only allowed to run for two terms due to state law.

She was born in 1965 in Tampa and attended the University of Florida, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 1987, and then Stetson Law School, where she earned her Juris Doctor in 1990. She was admitted to the Florida Bar on June 24, 1991.

She was a prosecutor and assistant state attorney in Hillsborough County before becoming the Florida attorney general.

Original report: Fox News Digital, citing two unnamed sources, said she was already fired.

The New York Times reported she was fired, citing a “person familiar with the decision.”

CNN also cited an unnamed source who said that Bondi was fired and would be temporarily replaced by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

MSNOW reported that four sources confirmed Bondi’s departure would be soon, and three sources said EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin is on the short list to replace her.

Bondi’s apparent firing came after rumors that Trump had said that she was not long for her role and was looking to replace her, CNN reported.

Her future position has not been confirmed, but there had apparently been talk about making her a judge after she left the Department of Justice, according to CNN.

Bondi was at Trump’s address to the nation on Wednesday night.

The Justice Department and Bondi have not commented.
